A República Portuguesa fica situada no sudoeste da Europa, na zona oeste da Península Ibérica e é o país mais ocidental da Europa, delimitado a Norte e a Leste pelo reino de Espanha e a Sul e Oeste pelo Oceano Atlântico. O território de Portugal compreende ainda as Regiões Autónomas dos Açores e da Madeira, situadas no hemisfério norte do Oceano Atlântico. Durante os séculos XV e XVI, Portugal foi a maior potência económica, social e cultural do mundo, com um império que se estendia em várias colónias pelo mundo. É hoje um país economicamente próspero, social e politicamente estável e humanamente desenvolvido.

English Portugal - Portuguese Republic

The Portuguese Republic, located in southwestern Europe on the Iberian Peninsula, is the westernmost country of mainland Europe. Portugal is bordered by ► Spain to the north (► Galicia) and east (► Andalusia, south east) and by the Atlantic Ocean to the west and south. The Atlantic archipelagos of the ► Azores and ► Madeira are also part of Portugal.
